Battle Creek to Get $3.6 Million in Rail, Train Station Upgrades
31 January 2010
U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer was at the State of the Union address in Washington Wednesday night and on Thursday afternoon, he was visiting with the Coopers from Charlotte as they waited for their train at the Battle Creek Transit station. Schauer was there to announce that Battle Creek would see $3.6 million in federal stimulus money as part of President Barack Obama's plan to construct a high speed rail system, part of which will span Schauer's district, from Kalamazoo to Dearborn. The station and rail upgrades will create roughly 150 construction related jobs starting this spring or summer, he said. - Battle Creek Shopper News
