Schauer: Governor Snyder has no Plan for Education
February 19, 2014
LANSING – Today Democratic gubernatorial challenger Mark Schauer issued the following statement on the state’s decision to terminate its exclusive contract with Governor Snyder’s Education Achievement Authority (EAA).
“Today’s decision to terminate the state’s exclusive contract with the EAA is another painful reminder that this governor has no plan for educating Michigan kids. First he cut over $1 billion from education to pay for his $1.8 billion corporate tax break. Now it seems the EAA, which was built on a house of cards to begin with, is collapsing due to mismanagement by this administration. We need real solutions to help struggling schools, and that includes investing additional resources in Michigan classrooms to help our kids compete for high-wage, high-skill jobs. It’s clear Governor Snyder’s one-size-fits-all approach to helping struggling schools is not working, and we need new leadership in Lansing.”
When asked about the Department of Education’s decision to terminate its exclusive contract with Gov. Snyder’s EAA today, the Governor admitted he wasn’t even aware of the decision. Snyder told reporters, “I’ll have to take a look at that. That is something I just heard about today.”
