Bush-Walberg policies have hurt middle class families, cost Michigan thousands of jobs
BATTLE CREEK—According to the Grand Rapids Press, President George W. Bush is scheduled to attend a fundraiser for endangered incumbent Congressman Tim Walberg today at the home of Amway billionaire Dick DeVos.
Today’s story can be found here.
Bush, Walberg and DeVos have staunchly supported unfair trade deals like NAFTA, which have cost Michigan 400,000 manufacturing jobs since 2000.
“While Tim Walberg has spent the last two years defending George Bush’s failed economic policies, Mark Schauer has been busy working with business and state officials to help save jobs and turn our economy around,” said Schauer spokesman Zack Pohl. “It's clear that Tim Walberg has a lot in common with George Bush – but nothing in common with the working families who have been devastated by eight years of unfair trade deals and Wall Street deregulation.”
Yesterday, Schauer appeared with business officials from United Solar Ovonic to announce a major solar energy development in Battle Creek, which will create hundreds of green collar renewable energy jobs over the next several years. This morning he also appeared at an event in Jackson with local and state officials to announce the establishment of a new Smart Zone, which will help stimulate the growth of high-tech jobs in Jackson County. Schauer first proposed the Smart Zone legislation with State Representatives Mike Simpson (D-Liberty Township) and Marty Griffin (D-Jackson) in January.
